CAF awards: Mikel, Enyeama, Emenike, seven others listed


Super Eagles stars Mikel Obi and Emmanuel Emenike are still in the race for the 2013 CAF African footballer of the Year after the top 10 nominees were named on Thursday.

Other Nigeria stars in the top 10 are goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama and Ahmed Musa, MTNFootball.com reports.

All the four players were involved as Nigeria won a third Africa Cup of Nations in February and also qualified for a fifth FIFA World Cup.

Jonathan’s approval rating falls to the worst in South-South


President Goodluck Jonathan’s performance rating fell five per cent in November after struggling for months to stay above the middle mark, with the South-South and North West geopolitical regions turning in the most damning verdict on the president’s performance, a monthly evaluation poll by NOI-Poll has shown.

The poll released Tuesday said the percentage of Nigerians that approved of the president’s performance declined to 50 per cent in November 2013, from October’s 55 per cent.

Saudi Arabian plane blocks Abuja Airport runway.



The Aviation Minister, Stella Oduah, has explained why the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport was shut down on Thursday.

In a statement by her Special Assistant of Media, Joe Obi, the minister confirmed that all flights into Abuja have been temporarily suspended till further notice.

The minister’s spokesperson said, “A Saudi Arabian B747 cargo aircraft landed in Abuja last night and veered off at the manoeuvring area of the runway, ran into a maintenance area of the runway and stopped.”

FAAN admits buying another 4 armoured cars for Stella Oduah, MD




 The Chairman, Senate Committee on Aviation, Hope Uzodinma, on Wednesday said the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) purchased  two armoured vehicles for Aviation minister, Stella Oduah and another two for its Managing Director, George Uriesi.

Mr. Uzodinma spoke to newsmen on the sidelines of the investigation into the purchase of two armoured vehicles by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for Aviation Minister Oduah.
