Political stability and national security summit holds Sept

About 500 politicians are billed to participate in a summit on political stability and national security. The summit is to hold in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, in September.

Similarly groups such as Pro National Conference Organization, PRONACO, The Patriots, Arewa
Consultative Forum, Northern Political Leaders Forum, Northern Elders Forum, Ohaneze Ndigbo, MiddleBelt Forum, Key Niger Delta Nationality Platforms, Afenifere, leaders of thought in the traditional institution and the academia, key leaders of labour and civil society, among others are expected to be represented at the forum.

This is contained in a statement by Citizens Advocacy Group and Project Nigeria, the conveners of the National Political Summit, on Thursday. The statement was signed by Naseer Kura, head of communications of the group.

“The summit has also been reviewed to accommodate (500) Five hundred participants instead of (250) Two hundred and fifty stakeholders initially expected to participate actively at the summit. This is in view of the upsurge in the number of interested eminent political stakeholders from across the country,” the statement said.

“The proposed interface of first class national figures and voices from across the six geo political zones of Nigeria and top government leaders shall also be expected to strategically cap the ongoing political reform agenda embarked upon by the Federal Government of Nigeria as well as try to intervene effectively on the amnesty debate and the security challenges in the country currently rocking the peace, harmony and stability of Nigeria.”

The statement said that the summit was earlier postponed to September 2 due to the sudden challenges in logistics created by overwhelming upsurge in the numbers of eminent stakeholders intending to participate at the summit than earlier envisaged, thereby creating sudden challenges in summit logistics that needed to be urgently addressed.

It added, “Also, the summit secretariat was requested by the Nigerian Government to allow for more time to enable government send quality representation to the National retreat since ‘the two day Dialogue is expected to provide critical intervention on burning national questions as well as the emergency situation in the country.

“Furthermore, the summit date was perceived by some sections of Nigerian stakeholders as being too close to the Ramadan fast and that the interests and sensibilities of a very important segment of the Nigerian populace ought to be considered in shifting the family meeting of all Nigerians to date after the Ramadan period, which is envisaged to end in the second week of August.

“Finally, we are glad to state that the earlier postponement of the summit date has now turn out to be a major blessing to this political initiative as it has afforded the organizers more room for profound consultations with a wide range of esteemed national leaders of thought, senior citizens and political stakeholders from the six geo political zones of Nigeria, most of whom have signified interest to support and donate to the successful hosting of the summit.”
