Kidnapped Deputy Gov’s father regains freedom

Cross River Police Command, Monday, announced the release of Etubom Essien Cobham, father of the state’s Deputy Governor, Mr. Efiok Cobham, who was abducted by unknown gunmen last Friday.

A statement by Mr. Hogan Bassey, the Police Public Relations Officer, in Calabar said that Cobham was released on Sunday.

He did not give details as to how the elder statesman was released or whether any ransom had been paid.
Bassey said: “Pa Cobham has been released. He was released due to pressure from the police.”

Gunmen took away Cobham at 2a.m., Friday, from his Creek Town country home in Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River.

Witnesses said that the deputy governor’s uncle, whose name was not immediately disclosed, was also abducted by the gunmen. He was also released.
