The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has threatened to sanction
any hospital that refuses to attend to accident victims, especially
during the ‘Ember Months’ (September to December) patrol.
The FRSC Benin Zonal Commanding Officer, ZCO, Nseobong Akpabio, said this in an interview on Monday, in Benin.
Mr. Akpabio, whose command comprises Edo, Delta and Anambra, said
that the command had, on Friday, begun a 24-hour patrol code named
“Operation Octopus’’, which would run for 15 days.
He explained that during this period, its officials would patrol
three corridors prone to accident, to ensure that road users complied
with traffic regulations.
He named the corridors to include the Benin-Asaba, Benin-Auchi and
Onitsha-Owerri expressways. He added that FRSC officials were also
expected to carry out aggressive public enlightenment in the areas where
the expressways were located.
Mr. Akpabio said that trained FRSC medical personnel and five ambulances would be on standby to attend to emergency situations.
“And I want to say that FRSC will sanction any hospital that rejects and refuses to attend to accident victims,” he said.
The FRSC boss warned road users, especially motorists, to avoid seat belt violation, speeding and dangerous driving.
“We will set up mobile c
ourts along these corridors to try erring motorists,” he affirmed.
