PDP: We are still studying Oyinlola's reinstatement judgment

 

The National Legal Adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Victor Kwom, has said that the party was still studying the Appeal Court judgment on Olagunsoye Oyinlola.

He was reacting to the Appeal Court judgment that reinstated Mr. Oyinlola as the party’s National Secretary.

Mr. Oyinlola is currently the National Secretary of the Abubakar Baraje-led faction of the party, tagged New PDP.

Mr. Kwom, who spoke to journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, added that the party would react at the appropriate time.

Also reacting to the judgment, the party`s current National Secretary, Wale Oladipo, stressed that he would remain in office pending when the Supreme Court takes final decision on the issue.

He said that the appellants from Ogun State were already heading to the Supreme Court, adding that he would only quit on the orders of the apex court.

“The respondents from Ogun state, who took Oyinlola to court in the first place, I believe are now in the process of going to the Supreme Court, which is the final court. They are exercising their rights to appeal.

“As to my position, nothing has changed. I remain the National Secretary of the party. Supreme Court will have the final say. No cause for alarm”, he said.

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja and presided over by Justice Abdul Kafarati had on January 11, nullified Mr. Oyinlola`s election as PDP National Secretary.

The court ruling was based on a suit filed by the Chairman of Ogun State chapter of the party, Adebayo Dayo.

Mr. Dayo in his suit, argued that Mr. Oyinlola emerged as the PDP national secretary through a “kangaroo process’’. He maintained that since the Federal High Court in Lagos nullified the South-west Zonal congress which produced Mr. Oyinlola, his continued stay in office was illegal, null and void.

This, he further argued, was especially so since his candidacy had earlier been voided
